A-Town will be, first and foremost, a residential community designed for persons with ASD or other neurodiversities. From thoughtfully appointed living spaces to sensory-friendly amenities, every aspect of A-Town will be planned to maximize comfort and security for its residents.
A-Town will follow a consumer-driven service model, meaning that residents will have the freedom to choose services and providers that work for them. But A-Town will make access to services as convenient as possible with onsite provider suites, dedicated service spaces, and a Concierge to help with coordination of services.
A-Town will foster close connections with the local community. An onsite coffee shop with resident employees will invite neighbors to connect with residents on a day-to-day basis. Residents will also have many opportunities to attend cultural and sports events with the added support from A-Town team members.
A-Town's building will be attractive, accessible, and adapted to residents' needs.
A corner cafe staffed by residents will be a convenient and enjoyable way for the surrounding community to experience A-Town's beneficial impact.
Plans include a secure front entrance with security features like:
• in/out swipe cards
• varying design elements at each corner of the building for directional guidance
• unobtrusive barriers to discourage wandering
A-Town's front lobby will not only be aesthetically beautiful, but will include many components of sensory-friendly design:
• Sound-dampening acoustic panels to reduce ambient noise
• Pod seating that provides quiet space and a sense of safety
• Indirect cove lighting
• Movable window shade panels and frosted glass to reduce glare
• Digital information boards with daily program, planned outings, trans
Residents would benefit from a protected outdoor space. This concept art for the interior courtyard highlights features like sound-dampening plantings, variable surfacing materials (for proprioceptive input), porch swings (for vestibular stimulation) and a cascading fountain (to promote calm)
We envision a variety of living spaces, from single-resident apartments to dorm-style four-bedroom residences with shared common areas. But every space will be thoughtfully designed with sensory-friendly features like:
- indirect cove lighting
- sound-dampening construction materials and acoustic wall tile
- integrated security and communication features
- smart-home technology
